It’s a Bit Chilly Outside

It’s going to be cold for the next week or so here in Connecticut.  It’s all anyone can talk about.  The normal low temperature around here is about 20 degrees.  The highs are only going to be half that.  The lows are going to be below zero.  It might not be Minnesota cold, but it is cold.  Yet I don’t mind at all.  I would gladly trade in a typical summer day for weather like this.  I seem to be in the minority with this opinion.

It’s funny having a different opinion than most people.  At least it is for me.  I can’t help but feel really, really average.  I am my own baseline.  I feel like anyone shorter than I am is short and anyone taller is tall because I’m a normal height.  It’s the same way with feelings and opinions.  I’m not the type to cultivate quirks.  If I like something, it feels like that thing is generally likeable.  And the opposite when I dislike something.  Because of this it is genuinely surprising to me when people have feelings and opinions that are the complete opposite of mine.

I don’t mean that in any kind of judge-y way.  I’m not saying that anyone out there who likes summer more than winter is wrong for doing so.  I’m just saying that it surprises me that anyone feels that way.  It really, really surprises me that most people seem to feel that way.  That’s OK, though.  I guess it’s good to be surprised, it keeps me on my toes.  Besides, it is cold outside and I’ll take it, no matter how everyone else feels about it.  I feel very strongly that it beats the alternative.
