Anti

The political left has an anti problem. They are anti lots and lots of things: antifascism, antiracism, anticapitalism, antiwar, anticorruption, and on and on and on. All those antis are fine (although some are more fine than others), but I think they form a large part of the left’s branding problem. The right is anti stuff too. Not as much, but they are anti-abortion, anti-drug, anti-sex, and anti-vax. The difference is the right notices bad branding and describes themselves as pro-life, pro-family values, and pro-freedom instead. The left can’t seem to figure that out. Politically, there is no long-term success in opposing things. It would be a nightmare for the Democrats and their allies if Trump and McConnell and Fox News just disappeared. The whole party would lose its identity. The New York Times wouldn’t be able to find anything to write about. It’d be nice if the left became active again.
