Family Traditions

I have some holiday traditions. I listen to holiday music from the day after Thanksgiving until Christmas Day every year. I read A Christmas Carol every year. I have pie for breakfast every year. I shop on Christmas Eve every year. I do my post-a-day December every year. But these are just my traditions. They’re not family traditions.

I also have a couple of extended family traditions. Every year, my parents get all their grandchildren together to decorate their tree. Also, my brother has everyone over on Christmas Eve to exchange presents. And that’s about all of my traditions.

I don’t have any traditions that are just me and my kid. Nor do I have any that are just me and my partner. And none that are me and my kid and my partner together. We didn’t even decorate a tree last year. That makes me kind of sad.

I’d love to start some family traditions with my kid and my partner. It’s just that life has been so chaotic that I don’t know where to start. Things are finally starting to settle. Maybe this will be our year to start some real family traditions.
