Holiday Music on the Radio

A piano ornament on a Christmas tree

Yesterday I wrote a piece about my car music difficulties. I’m stuck listening to the radio and I don’t like it. Now that we’re past Thanksgiving, there is a new wrinkle. Every year from the day after Thanksgiving through Christmas Day, I binge on holiday music. I’m doing it again this year, but I’m stuck with the radio in my car, so it’s different.

There are two big problems with trying to listen to holiday music on the radio. The first is that most stations don’t play a lot of holiday music. They may throw in the occasional Christmas song, but it’s not even once an hour. There is one station that plays non-stop Christmas music all month long, Light 100.5, but that brings us to the second big problem.

The lack of variety on “Connecticut’s Christmas Station” is mind boggling. If I hear Dominic the Donkey, Baby It’s Cold Outside, or Last Christmas again this season, I don’t know what I’ll do, but I won’t be happy. I’m not expecting anything groundbreaking or revelatory, I just wish I could listen on my morning and afternoon commutes without hearing the same songs.

At least I still have my holiday music collection to listen to at home. That’ll have to be enough to get me through.
