Am I a Bully?

Two birds fighting

Last week, I wrote a post called How Is It That No One Understands Trump Yet? – Nutmegger Daily. It wasn’t my best work, but I’m trying to get back in the habit of writing every day. After I published it, I put it on all my socials as I do to try to get people to read it. Then, a funny thing happened. LinkedIn took the post down. They said it violated their bullying policy. I believe this was the offending passage:

A whole bunch of people think they understand Trump. They’ll tell you all about him every chance they get. He’s a liar. He’s a narcissist. He’s a bully. He’s a pedophile. He’s a rapist. He’s a convicted felon. He’s a bigot, a racist, a homophobe, a misogynist, and a xenophobe. He’s stupid, selfish, greedy, bombastic, prideful, pathetic, and vain. He has bad taste and bad hair. He has small hands. Oh, and let’s not forget that he’s a fascist, a wannabe dictator, and Putin’s lapdog. Granting all that and more, it doesn’t bring us any closer to understanding him.

I’ve never thought of myself as a bully, and I honestly can’t tell what’s bullying about the quoted passage. I’m not even using the technicality that I’m just repeating what is commonly said or that it’s all true. Bullying, in order to be bullying, has to have a power imbalance. And, while often not stated explicitly, it is the more powerful that bullies the less powerful. I would argue that it’s not even possible for the less powerful to bully the more powerful.

I don’t know if I even need to say this, but, LinkedIn, I’m far less powerful than the billionaire president of the United States. I know that’s disappointing to hear, but it’s true. Imagine if it were the opposite. If I had all of Trump’s power and he only had mine. Things would likely be much better than they are now. Ah well, it will never be, but it’s nice to dream sometimes.

Anyway, that’s all I wanted to say. For the first time ever, I’ve been censored by a social media site. Hopefully it won’t happen again.
