C-
One thing I do with this blog is grade myself. It’s nothing formal. Even though I’m a trained English teacher, I don’t have a rubric or anything. But I like to go back over my writing and see how I’m doing. Since I can’t think of anything to write about for this final day of post-a-day December, I thought I’d take you through my grading process.
I start with the numbers because it’s easy. I posted a piece 30 out of the 31 days in December. That should be an automatic F, but I’m choosing to accept my doctor’s note, so to speak. The one day I missed I was laid up with a migraine. That’s a reasonable excuse.
In terms of visitors and views, it was a so-so month. It had the second most views of the year after November, but December usually has the most views. It was also down from last December. Nothing to get excited about there.
With the writing itself, I’m mostly disappointed. A lot of first drafts got published. A lot of posts were posted just to post something. Nothing feels particularly inspired. I did like a few of them: Supertasting – Nutmegger Daily, The Horn – Nutmegger Daily, I Guess I Am Old – Nutmegger Daily, A Question about Gift Giving – Nutmegger Daily, and Fast Food Toys – Nutmegger Daily. They aren’t my best work, but they’re readable.
Overall, I’m giving myself a C- for the month. I did the assignment, but I just did the bare minimum. My writing feels a little stuck. I’ll try to do better the next time.
