Grocery Shopping
I went grocery shopping today. I don’t like grocery shopping. This may sound silly, but I never know what to buy. Every time I go, I think to myself that I’m going to get something different. I’ll try something new. And I always walk out with the same stuff. Week after week, it’s always the same stuff.
Each time I go, I bring four reusable bags because I’m ever the optimist. I get a cart and walk up and down each aisle. I’m waiting for some item to jump off the shelf yelling, “Buy me.” I might pick something different up and look at it from time to time, but I always end up putting it back. Today, I didn’t even do that. I just got the old standbys. I walked out with a loaf of bread, a bag of Gala apples, a box of garbage bags, a box of pasta (shells), a jar of sauce for the pasta, and butter. Nothing else looked appealing. It all fit in one of my bags.
I always try asking my kid what to get, but that’s never any help. He always says he doesn’t know. Apparently, he can’t tell ahead of time what he’ll be in the mood for on any given day. I’d be willing to buy almost anything he requested, but he always winds up with the same old same old.
It wasn’t always this way. When my kid was first being introduced to solid food, I bought all kinds of crazy fruits and vegetables. I didn’t want him to be as picky as his father, so I tried to expose him to a little of everything. I don’t know if it worked or not. He’s more adventurous than I am, but he’d also happily eat pasta five nights a week.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
