Mega Million was won by someone who bought a ticket in Maine. The prize was $1.35 billion. For me, at least, that’s an unfathomable amount of money. Can you imagine it? Clearly, no one needs that much money. The question is, would you want that much money?
My answer to that question is no. And I could really use some extra money. It’s just too much, though. One of the fun things about playing the lottery is fantasizing about what you’d do with the winnings. The thought of that much money stresses me out. Actually having it wouldn’t be worth that kind of stress.
I’m not coming at this from the perspective that the ultrarich are necessarily immoral. Even though most of the ones I know about are immoral, there are a handful that came about their money honestly. If you can’t think of any, you have to admit that it’s conceptually possible.
I’m not sure exactly why it stresses me out so much. I think it’s the disruption to my lifestyle, even though I don’t have much of a lifestyle. There would be a lot of pressure to move, and I hate moving. I don’t even know what else. What do the ultrarich do besides roll around in their piles of money?
I guess that’s why I never buy lottery tickets.
