I’ve been saying for years that Trump is not a liar. Sadly, I haven’t moved the narrative an inch. But I’m going to take it a step further and say that Trump is actually surprisingly honest. Of course, there are many senses of the word. Meriam-Webster gives nine definitions for the word honest:
- Free from fraud or deception: This one is clearly not right. Trump is a world class fraudster.
- Genuine, real: This one gets a maybe for now. I talk more about it later.
- Humble, plain: Another that is clearly not right. There’s nothing humble about a man with gold toilets.
- Reputable, respectable: Again, not right. Trump is certainly not respectable.
- Good, worthy: Nope.
- Worthy of praise: I’m not sure how this is different than the previous one, so again, nope.
- Marked by integrity: As Ms. Krabappel from The Simpsons would say, “Ha!”
- Marked by free, forthright, and sincere expression: Now we’re on to something.
- Direct and uncomplicated: Hmm. This deserves some thought.
So, three out of nine could accurately describe Trump. Let’s look at them.
Is Trump genuine and real? Well, yes and no. I’d say he’s not genuine, but he is real. He is a supremely gifted BS artist. He cares nothing for truth or being genuine. However, what you see is what you get. He doesn’t hide who he is. That’s pretty real.
Is Trump direct and uncomplicated? Well, again, yes and no. He has a weird way of talking. There are tangents and loops and non-sequiturs. It takes him a long time to get to the point. That’s all a part of his BS. So, he’s not really direct. But he is uncomplicated. Like I said before, what you see is what you get. There’s nothing deeper under the surface. He’s all id. That’s pretty uncomplicated.
Is Trump marked by free, forthright, and sincere expression? This one is yes, yes, and yes. What this comes down to is that Trump has nary a thought that doesn’t come out of his mouth. He has no filter. It’s a BS move. He gets facts wrong all the time. He contradicts himself. But he always means what he says. This, right here, the fact that he always means what he says, is why I think he’s honest.
So, why am I writing this? Certainly not to praise Trump in any way. He’s a wholly despicable, evil person. He doesn’t care about anything except himself. A better question might be what am I hoping to accomplish in writing this? I said at the beginning that I haven’t been able to move the narrative an inch. I’m hoping to move the narrative. Trump is not a liar. He’s honest. In fact, he’s one of the most honest politicians we have. People have to figure that out and start talking about him that way.
This is important because Trump keeps telling us who he is and what he’s going to do, and no one is listening to him. If we had been listening, no one would be surprised by the tariffs. No one would be surprised by the deportations. No one would be surprised by DOGE. No one would be surprised by the cutting of funding for Harvard and other schools. No one would be surprised by the Department of Education. No one would be surprised by the SAVE Act. No one would be surprised by anything he’s doing. He’s been honest this whole time and now he’s following through.
If we want to stop Trump, and I really hope that most of us want to stop Trump, we have to start being honest with ourselves about who we’re dealing with. The longer the myth persists that Trump is a liar who doesn’t know what he’s doing, the harder he will be to fight. We need to start listening to the man and trusting him. He is being honest after all.
