Further Along the TMS Journey

A White brain on a black background

I reached the one-month checkpoint on my Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) journey today. (If you missed it, you can read about how it’s been going so far: The Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation Journey Begins – Nutmegger Daily and The TMS Journey Continues – Nutmegger Daily) I took my depression checklist, and my score was as low as last time which was very low. I’m taking a lot of encouragement from today’s score. It shows that last check in wasn’t a fluke. The treatment really seems to be working.

I’ve been noticing improvements in real life, too. I’m keeping up with housework better than I have in a long time. And, this one’s exciting for me, I’m reading again. And not just comfort books. Since treatment began about a month ago, I’ve read Normal Rules Don’t Apply by Kate Atkinson (very enjoyable), On Lying and Politics by Hannah Arendt (meh), and I’m halfway through The Awakening by Kate Chopin (decent so far). I’m eating a bit better than I have been, and I’m sleeping a little better, too.

I wouldn’t go so far as to say I’m cured or anything, though. I met with my prescriber today and I’m staying on all my medications for now. Plus, I’m merely keeping up with the housekeeping. I’m not getting ahead yet. My writing isn’t going well, either. Many days I don’t write at all. And the days when I do write, I’m not satisfied with the results. I do have a few more weeks of treatment to go, so we’ll see if these come along at all.

For now, I’m happy with my progress. I’ll be sure to keep you in the loop going forward.
