The Ninth First Day of School

I have a tradition of sorts here at Nutmegger Daily. Every year, I write a blog post about my kid’s first day of school. Or, more accurately, about my feelings on my kid’s first day of school. Prior entries can be found here, here, here, here, here, here, here, and here. If there is one continuing theme, it’s that I’m never happy when my kid goes to school. I’ve only taken a first day of school picture once. That was second grade, I think, and at the insistence of my mother.

This year starts eighth grade. Last year of middle school. It’s hard to believe I’m going to have a high schooler next year. My kid was excited to see his friends again. We were up cooking last night so he’d have a lunch to bring. Those are good things.

My feelings are in the meh, blah, blurgh, ugh, whatever territory, though. I’ve come to accept that I’m never going to like sending my kid to school for nine months, but that it’s one of those things I can’t control. I have to just let it go.

That’s really all I have to say about it. If anyone has a bright side, please let me know.
